He came out from the Old Country to teach school at the Glen when I was a boy of sixteen. He wasn't much like the usual run of derelicts who used to come out to P.E.I. to teach school in them days. Most of them were clever, drunken critters who taught the children the three R's when they were sober, and lambasted them when they wasn't. But John Selwyn was a fine, handsome young fellow. He boarded at my father's, and he and me were cronies, though he was ten years older'n me. We read and walked and talked a heap together. He knew about all the poetry that was ever written, I reckon, and he used to quote it to me along shore in the evenings. Dad thought it an awful waste of time, but he sorter endured it, hoping it'd put me off the notion of going to sea. Well, nothing could do THAT--mother come of a race of sea-going folk and it was born in me. But I loved to hear John read and recite. It's almost sixty years ago, but I could repeat yards of poetry I learned from him. Nearly sixty years!"
3、Of amber, crystal, and of beaded jet,Nintendo released its newest earnings report today, revealing that the Nintendo Switch has, quite easily, outsold the Wii U in its first 10 months of release. Since the Switch launched in March, 2017, the console has sold 14.86 million units, a cool million and some change more than the Wii U’s humble 13.56 million units. The Switch has benefited a good deal from a strong collection of first-party games early on (Super Mario Odyssey has sold 9 million copies thus far) in its life-span, and the console’s convertible, portable format has been a huge surprise hit. The Wii U, on the other hand, suffered from confusing marketing that failed to really talk up the purpose of the device and a fairly lackluster offering of exclusive big games.Demand for the Switch remains high due to limited supply, so it’s likely we’ll see people clamoring for one of the hybrid gadgets for months to come. The Switch is gradually catching up to the GameCube, which moved 21.74 million units, though the Switch is still quite a ways away from the Wii, which amassed huge success during its lifespan, selling 101.63 million units. That’ll be a hard number for the Switch to beat, but we’ll wait and see.You can view the report, complete with handy infographics, here.
